Huge Tea Party win in Delaware

leave a comment »

Tea Party-backed Christine O’Donnell defeated establishment candidate Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware’s Republican Senate primary tonight.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting, O’Donnell was six points ahead of Castle, leading 53 percent to 47 percent. The Associated Press called the race in her favor shortly after 9 p.m.

Conventional wisdom has it that O’Donnell can’t win a general election for the Senate in Delaware.  Most Democrats and many Republicans believe that as a result of the primary election, VP Biden’s old Senate seat is now considered safe.

But you never know with the growing influence of the Tea Party surge.  What I do know is that Sara Palin’s stock  just went up….again.

Round-up reactions:

CNN: National party unlikely to give O’Donnell $.

Jim Geraghty asks ” how did Mike Castle never have a primary challenger in 9 terms”?

Rightosphere’s Adam Graham offers a post-mortem on Castle’s political career.
